Getting insurance depends a lot on who you talk to on the phone. If you have other companies that you know offer insurance for right hand drive minitrucks and minivans, please let us know.

Thanks for this list, but, is everyone else driving a kei truck or rh drive filthy rich or what? I found an opportunity to pick one up cheap, but thankfully thought to call my insurer first. Wawanesa (who insure my cars, bikes, and house) won’t touch it so my agent says about 400 for plpd for 6 months with facility assn. This is more than I pay for my civic for full coverage PER YEAR. Checked out one of the other insurers on this list (co-op) and it was 720 for 6 months if I stay within 5 km??

I have been with The Personal for a few years now and I called about insuring a mini truck. They told me they do not insure right hand drive vehicles. ???
I too purchased my kei truck, and was quoted a fair price from RBC insurance before I bought the truck, so I purchased the truck and RBC refused to insure it because it is right hand drive. I had to go with Facility for 936 A YEAR. This is about $100 less then I pay for my home and auto combined for my existing car. Look at insurance first before you buy!!!
When I recently picked up my ’90 Carry, my usual carrier wanted to call it a commercial vehicle and not cover it. Impact (through a broker) was ready and willing to cover it as a personal vehicle. My usual guys (TD Meloche Monnex) came around when I told them I had several companies willing to cover it (Axa, Impact and Co-Operators).
